To celebrate International Women's Day in March, Global Creative Hub collaborated with the Girls In AI initiative to host the first-ever female-only virtual hackathon for teen girls in Pakistan, namely #GirlsInAIPK.
Girls aged 12-18 from all over Pakistan were invited to join the hackathon to design, prototype, and develop AI-based solutions that addressed various United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals.
Throughout the hackathon, participants led on projects and were guided by industry mentors: technologists, design thinkers, entrepreneurs, and experts to create innovative projects using AI. Through a robust experience of 5 days, the girls heard from inspiring industry leaders and were mentored by field experts in design thinking, business, tech, AI ethics, and more.
This led to the local demo day where all the teams pitched to a panel of judges who then selected the winning team to proceed to the international judging round.
During the international round, the winning team from Pakistan won 2nd place among more than 22 countries and got the chance to win some amazing prizes.
The statistics from the hackathon were amazing:
With a 100% female-only event, 5 teams worked together throughout 6 days of working and 1 day of pitching to build next gen AI-based solutions and use the potential of AI for social good.
Global Creative Hub is committed to the upskilling of girls all over Pakistan and we are hopeful to continue our collaboration with the #GirlsInAI series to continue and impact more young girls.
